About Our Weather

What's the perfect time to explore the stunning Lecrin Valley in Granada? Well, it depends on the type of experience you want and, the weather you prefer. The Lecrin Valley offers tranquility and adventure all year round.

From April to December, most days boast clear, sunny skies and picturesque beauty!  Actually, its almost the same during January through March but, we usually get some rain here and there.

It's essential for guests to consider the weather when planning their visit to the Lecrin Valley.

The Lecrin Valley offers a unique charm that evolves with each season, as the rhythm of life and farming activities transform throughout the year.

For example, from late January to mid-February, the valley comes alive with the stunning almond blossoms—weather permitting, of course.

The Sierra Nevada Ski Resort provides consistently excellent late-season skiing conditions, rivaling some of the best in Europe, including the Swiss, French, Austrian, and Italian Alps.

Summers here are typically hot and dry, whereas winters can bring occasional chilly and wet days.

Rain during the summer is a rare occurrence, with most of the rainfall concentrated between December and March. But, it’s not a constant downpour—plenty of crisp, sunny blue-sky days brighten the winter months. On those sunny yet brisk winter days, the roof terrace is the perfect spot to soak up the winter sun.

Some trails, like the breathtaking Barranco de Luna, make for ideal summer hikes, while others may not be as suitable for the heat. Similarly, certain hiking routes in the Sierra Nevada mountains close during the winter months. If you’re looking for expert advice or guided experiences, our hiking guru, Kirsten Pedersen, is here to help.

The Hottest: July & August

Temperatures soar throughout Southern Spain in July and August.

The Lecrin Valley enjoys a noticeably cooler climate compared to Granada and is far more refreshing than the scorching temperatures of Cordoba or Seville.

At this time of year, it’s common for life in the Lecrin Valley to slow down for a siesta. Bars, restaurants, and shops often take a break during the hottest hours of the day.

As the evening falls, the valley comes to life—buzzing with energy, vibrant activities, and a festive atmosphere that’s hard to resist.

Traditional village homes are designed to stay naturally cool during the summer. For added comfort, bedrooms are equipped with fans, and all windows feature insect screens to keep the breeze flowing in without any unwelcome guests.

Here in Acequias, mosquitos are rarely a concern. Some attribute this to the high altitude of 896 meters above sea level, while others insist the local bat population keeps them in check.

The Coldest: January & February

It's always sunny and warm in Southern Spain right?

While Southern Spain is often associated with year-round warmth, this isn't entirely true for every region—especially the Sierra Nevada Natural and National Park area in Granada.

Here in the idyllic Lecrin Valley, located just 20 km south of Granada and 25 km from the Mediterranean Sea, as part of the Sierra Nevada Natural and National Park, we enjoy all four seasons, including winter. Temperatures can drop, particularly at night and on those rare overcast or rainy days. Overnight lows often average around 5°C, though snow in Acequias or the Lecrin Valley is now a rare sight.

During the day, however, our winter temperatures typically reach an average of 15°C. When relaxing on the terraces of Casa Morayma, it often feels closer to 23°C, making it perfect for soaking up the sun.

The diverse network of hiking trails in the Lecrin Valley makes it a destination for year-round exploration. However, some routes are best tackled only during the recommended seasons. For instance, many summer trails in the Sierra Nevada Natural and National Park are closed in winter due to snow and avalanche risks.

The Sierra Nevada ski resort is  renowned for offering some of the best late-season skiing conditions.

Imagine skiing in the morning and swimming on the beach in the afternoon—if that sounds appealing then mid-March to April is the ideal time to visit Casa Morayma and the Lecrin Valley in Granada.

Casa Morayma utilises gas heating in the kitchen, dining and living areas. Int he Bed & Bathrooms, electrical heaters are provided. Heated towel rails are installed in all bathrooms.
