About Casa Morayma Guesthouse

Why Casa "Morayma"?

Morayma (1467–1493) was the cherished wife of Boabdil, the last Sultan (King) of the Nasrid Empire and ruler of Al-Andalus.

She symbolizes courage, resilience, perseverance, and love during a time of profound adversity and monumental change.

Morayma's final resting place is in Mondújar, just 2 kilometers from Acequias.

Every October, the Lecrín Valley honors her legacy with a vibrant medieval fiesta.

About Chantal, Owner & Host at Casa Morayma

In February 2023, I moved to Spain and, by late October, became the proud owner of Casa Morayma and its neighbor, Zoraya. After renovations, Casa Morayma was completed in April 2024 and opened to guests on May 1, 2024. I live in Casa Zoraya, next door.

I am Australian and German, English is my mother language. Raised globally, I spent my childhood years in Sub-Saharan Africa, Germany, and Iraq, before finishing school in Australia. Later, I built a successful career in international construction and mining, specializing in corporate and project governance.

In 2018, I walked the Camino de Santiago—a life-changing journey that inspired me to pursue my long-forgotten dreams. To live in the European alps. Six months later, I left my home in Brisbane, Australia, my family, and friends, I moved to Kitzbühel, Tirol, in the Austrian Alps.

In March 2020, my plans changed when I was stranded in Cyprus during global lockdowns. While there, I purchased, renovated and rented properties while  dedicating most of my time to improving animal welfare.

In November 2022, I booked a one-way ticket for my dog and me, leaving February 23, 2023. Flying via Larnaca, Athens, and Madrid, I knew only that I wanted to settle close to the Sierra Nevada National and Natural Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
